Acts 5 — Ps Andrew Fisher — 8 Mar 2026

• The book of Acts reveals the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit: Acts is not merely the “Acts of the Apostles” but the Acts of the Holy Spirit. Everything the early church accomplished — bold preaching, miracles, endurance and growth — flowed from the Spirit’s power, not human ability.

• Believers are called to wait for and walk in God’s promise: Jesus instructed His followers to remain in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit. God’s promises are worth waiting for, and the Spirit’s empowerment is essential for fulfilling the calling, mission and destiny God has prepared for every believer.

• Boldness grows through continual filling of the Spirit: Peter’s transformation — from fearful fisherman to courageous preacher — shows that boldness is not stored like a resource but activated when believers step into obedience. The Spirit enables courage, clarity and conviction in every situation.

• Authenticity and holiness strengthen the church: The sobering account of Ananias and Sapphira highlights the seriousness of integrity before God. Their story did not weaken the church; it purified it. People are drawn to a church that lives truthfully, honours God and refuses compromise.

• God protects His mission and releases His messengers: When the apostles were imprisoned for preaching Jesus, an angel miraculously freed them. Instead of hiding, they returned to the most public place — the temple — and continued teaching. Their obedience shows that pleasing God matters more than pleasing people.

• The church must rise in faith, courage and spiritual authority: Acts 5 calls believers to live set apart, walk in the Spirit, stand firm against spiritual opposition and embrace transformation. God equips His people with spiritual weapons — prayer, the Word and the Spirit — to pull down strongholds and boldly advance His Kingdom.
